Contact Dance Jam
07/27/2010 - 2:16pm
Etc/GMT-4
Description:
Contact Improvisation is a movement form developed by Steve Paxton to create partnering opportunities (originally for men) in modern dance that were free from the interpretation of power or relationship that most audiences encounter when watching duets in dance. The form has developed to a practice that allows dancers and non-dancers to become more aware in their bodies, use gravity and weight sharing to create (sometimes astounding) shapes and to connect our mind and bodies in a meditational practice.
Our event will be geared towards beginners, starting with a short class from 4:30-5:00 that teaches introductory concepts that will allow anyone to participate in the jam. The following 'jam' from 5-7 is open to movers of all levels and is free---improvisers can enter and leave the space at will--some people may feel more comfortable just observing.
Keene Dilettante Dance will teach the introductory dance session and lead the Contact Jam.
4:30 PM to 7:00 PM in the Keene Public Library Heberton HallKeene Dilettante Dance will teach the introductory dance session and lead the Contact Jam.
