Fly-Fishing Workshop08/05/2010 - 3:19pm Etc/GMT-4 Description: Fly-Fishing A to Z @ your Library! This workshop series offers a chance to learn about the traditional and timeless sport of fly-fishing. The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department’s “Let’s Go Fishing” Program is pairing up with the Keene Public Library to host “Fly-Fishing A-Z” on Thursday evenings in August.There is no charge for the class. The class is open to anyone age 13 and over, however those 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Class space is limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. To sign up, please call the Keene Public Library at 603-352-0157. Designed primarily for first-time fly-fishers, the workshop will cover the basics of equipment, fly casting, stream ecology, knot tying, safety and how to find those “hot spots” along New Hampshire’s rivers and lakes. The highlight of the series will Saturday, August 28, when we'll pull on our waders and head out to a local fishing hole to put our newly learned skills to the test! Participants should plan to bring their own or borrowed equipment. A limited number of rods will be available for use; when you register, please let the Library know if you will need to borrow equipment. Key 1

African American Folktales08/05/2010 - 3:00pm Etc/GMT-4 Description: Stories from the Heart: African American Folktales & Slave Narratives Using readings, traditional and digital storytelling, research, and writing participants will learn to tell a story and create an electronic version of their oral story. Participants will learn some minimal editing using MovieMaker and Audacity. The culminating activity will be a celebration when participants will tell their story as well as present their digital creation. 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Trustees Room at the Keene Public Library Key 1

Painting Group08/05/2010 - 1:46pm Etc/GMT-4 Description:
For many decades, artists living in There is no formal instruction at group meetings. Artists simply learn from one another by observing and asking questions when they see something that interests them. The Keene Public Library along with the Monadnock Area Artists Association has a painting group meeting every Thursday morning from 10:00 to noon. The program is open to the public with no fees or admission. One simply needs to provide ones own art materials. The group meets in Heberton Hall next to the Library and is a wonderful place to paint. No advance notice is required. Just show up, meet some fellow artists, new friends, and enjoy yourself. |
